Bath Christmas markets: how MiPermit is helping make the festive season joyful
The run up to Christmas is truly accelerating and Christmas markets are open for business across the UK. One of the longest running is in Bath, which expects more than half a million visitors each year. This year’s Christmas market runs to 15 December 2019.
A key priority for Bath & North East Somerset Council is managing the additional cars and coaches driving into the city as efficiently as possible to ease traffic congestion. MiPermit already provided residents and visitors of Bath with the convenience of cashless parking and digital permits, as well as parking management, through one single platform. In 2016, the Council also turned to MiPermit to manage the 1,000 coaches that brought tourists to the Christmas market.
Operators or coach drivers simply go online to book a specific date and time for a convenient drop off and pick up slot. This prevents hundreds of coaches trying to drop passengers off at the same time and eased the flow of coaches through the city centre. As the Christmas market coach permit booking process is fully automated through MiPermit, the Council has also been able to deploy more resources on the ground to improve the experience for drivers and visitors to the Christmas markets.
